What is it?
Sports for the brain! Academic Decathlon is a national quiz bowl competition. Students study material and compete in six areas—Art, Literature, Music, Mathematics, Economics, and Science. There is also a Super Quiz in which students answer questions on a predetermined topic (past topics have included the Internet, Astronomy, and Lewis and Clark).
When is it?
Decathlon is a daily, 2-semester course that meets 1 period a day.
Who can join?
Anyone who has the following characteristics: motivated, able to make a commitment, determined, works well with others, is a team player, enjoys learning new things, responds well to challenges, and is focused and hard-working. All GPA levels are needed and welcome. Decathlon sponsor has final approval.

Testing areas:
ART-history of the target period and art basics
ECONOMICS-economic basics and the economy of the target period
LANGUAGE & LITERATURE-a novel or plays and poetry
MUSIC-composers and musicians of the target era
MATH-basic math through trigonometry
SOCIAL SCIENCE or SCIENCE-hard science such as botany or social science (history)
SUPER QUIZ-10 questions from the target subject
