Fireflies dance their way to number one on charts and in hearts

The month of November brings many new hit releases out on the market. For artists, dishing out the hottest beats and sharpest lyrics is crucial when it comes to their latest albums. Making it on the charts is the main goal.

Released on July 14th, Owl City’s album "Ocean Eyes" hit the competitive shelves. Not really making a big debut until recently, Adam Young’s songs like "Fireflies" and "Vanilla Twilight" hit the top of the charts. With his pop techno beats, and random lyrics he has grabbed teenagers’ attention all over the world. Owl City’s other albums include "Maybe I’m Dreaming" and "Of June" which were released in 2008.

Starting out in his mother’s basement, Young slowly raised his status through Myspace and then finally hit the top billboard charts with his biggest song yet, "Fireflies". The fact that this song is so unusual and unique makes you addicted to figuring out why he wrote about dancing fireflies and staying awake all night. There is some kind of mystery behind the song, and until that is figured out everyone is obsessed with the suspense.

Young is a fan of electronic beats and upbeat sounds and how he puts them together with lyrics is what makes his style unique and fascinating. A favorite song of mine is "West Coast Friendship" which came out in 2008 on the "Maybe I’m Dreaming" CD. In this song the main beat is what draws me in, and the chorus just makes you wish you were in California because of how he draws the picture of it. When the artist can bring you into a whole new world and make you wish you were where they are singing about that is what sells the crowd. You can relate to wanting to be there, and to the love story within it.

For me, a song really hits home when real life experiences are mixed into the lyrics. Usually artists want to touch you were you are most sensitive like love or family. The fact that Young uses nature to relate to love is what takes his music to a whole new level for teenagers. When you can relate to an artist you admire, and they also have a great beat to it too, that just makes the icing on the cake.
