The 2009 girls volleyball team has been working and practicing more than they ever have in the summer. Not only did they practice on Mondays and Wednesdays over the summer, but they have also added many new workout items to their practice.

One of these items includes the infamous Life Strides. These bands wrap around the girls’ legs above the knees. The bands connect around the front and back from the sides on the girls’ legs. “ Quote”

The bands are supposed to strengthen the core, hips, and thighs. The girls get special exercises from a trainer, Stacey Erwin. The trainer has the girls do stretches and exercises like high-knees, shuffles and regular practice drills with the bands. Varsity wears the bands for the entire practice, including scrimmages. The only time they might take the bands off is for hitting, spiking, and games.

The straps along with shuffles and running have gotten the girls in shape for the season, which started on Thursday, September 3rd. The girls got swept 3-0 against number six-ranked Bryan. “Quote”

The Vikings lost the match 25-12, 25-13, 25-21. Even with their efforts the team could not handle Bryan’s Sierra Bell. Bell was the leading scorer for the Bears in the match.

The lady Vikings also held their annual Omaha North Invite over Labor Day Weekend. The girls played Thomas Jefferson, Northwest, and South. The girls beat Northwest 2-0 and then lost to a challenging South team 2-1. In the first game against South, the Vikings dominated the Packers 25-9. But lack of communication in the last two games created confusion causing the girls to lose. “Quote”

The Vikings then played Thomas Jefferson in the third place match. The Vikings struggled against the Jackets and lost 2-0. “Quote”

The girls played against Brian and South again in the regular season. On September 8th the girls fought hard against a strong Bryan team. The girls showed improvement by losing 25-22 in the first game. The other games were just as close when the Vikings lost to Bryan 25- and 25- .

The Vikings are carrying this little bit of momentum since the Invite in to the Gradoville Invite at Bryan on September 12th and 13th
