This section contains information on the various technologies, equipment and services that are available to staff. It is not an all-inclusive list although that is the ultimate goal. A brief overview of each item is provided on this page.
Equipment Checkout
Various types of equipment - computers, projectors, digital still & video camera - are available for checkout. Most equipment can be reserved by accessing the 332_Resources conference in FirstClass and opening the appropriate calendar. For the few items that are not open to staff scheduling, please contact the Computer Center.
Group Folders
Group Folders, located on the NORTH04 file server, provide an easy solution to a time-consuming problem. In making presentations in class, without Group Folders, students log into their network account, launch the presentation and then logout. This process would repeat for each student and wastes class time. Group Folders provides a common location on a file server for all students in a class. Each student has his/her own private storage space for uploading presentations and other files while allowing the teacher to have full access to all files. Now, when it is time for presentations, the teacher logs into the network and accesses all the student presentations in the Group Folder - no need for students to login and logout.
iFolder
iFolder is software and is installed by default on all staff-issued Windows laptops. While its use is optional, it is highly recommended. iFolder automatically synchronizes files saved into an "iFolder" folder found on the Windows desktop eliminating the need to manually backup files. Normally files saved to a laptop either in the My Documents folder or on the desktop are lost when the computer's hard drive fails or the computer is lost. iFolder prevents such loss. As long as files are saved in the user's iFolder folder, they can always be retrieved on a new computer. The iFolder folder is also accessible via NetStorage.
iManager
iManager is a web-based utility that allows staff, with prior permission, to manage printer queues, change student passwords and clear student login lockouts. Contact the Computer Center for access.
NetStorage
NetStorage is web-based access to our file servers from anywhere - in or outside the school district. Using the same network login credentials (username & password) that is used during the school day, staff (and students) can access files (not applications) from any web browser. Information on accessing NetStorage can be found in the 332_Tips & Tricks FirstClass conference. The student version of this document can be found in 332_How Do I?
Tape Backup
The Computer Center maintains a daily backup of all files on our file servers. In most cases (there are always exceptions :), the Computer Center can access tapes from as far back as one school year and retrieve files. Our file servers features "Salvage," a utility that allows for the inidvidual user to retrieve previously saved versions of files that have been deleted with contacting the Computer Center. Essentially, when the user deletes a file, the file system on the server only removes the entry, not the actual file. Salvage can access any deleted file still remaining on the server. For assistance in using Salvage, please contact the Computer Center.
The Training Center is located in the Curriculum Center and offers personalized training and assistance for faculty and staff.
Web Pages
All staff can create and maintain web pages for their classes, sports, clubs and organizations. Information on doing so and training in the use of the required service can be gained by contacting the Training Center.
