Biography:
Mr. Sitzman, an Omaha native, taught science for OPS from 1991-2003. He has been assigned to Omaha North High Magnet School since 1999, teaching Chemistry 1-2 and Biotechnology prior to becoming a Curriculum Specialist in 2003. As Curriculum Specialist, he heads the Science, Business, Music, and Family & Consumer Sciences departments, coordinates the building's Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement programs and testing, and directs the annual Omaha North High Summer Technology, Engineering, and Science Camps for grades 5-7.
Mr. Sitzman was born just blocks away from Omaha North High Magnet School. He enjoys bicycle touring, reading (National Geographic, Smithsonian, and Discover magazines as well as Calvin and Hobbes comics), being outside, and spending time with his family.
Mr. Sitzman is a professional leader at the local, state, and national levels. He is a past board member and 2009 President of the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Science.  Since 1999, he has been a Key Leader for Nebraska Building a Presence in Science.  He is the author of numerous journal articles at the state and national level, including three articles published in Science Scope, a peer-reviewed journal of the National Science Teachers Association.   His awards include:


•    the 2003 Presidential Awardee for Excellence in Science Teaching
•    the Peter Kiewit Foundation's Nebraska Teacher Achievement Award for Excellence in the Classroom
•    a three-time winner of an AFCEA (Omaha Chapter) Science Teaching Tools Grant
•    the NIKE, Inc. Jordan Fundamentals Grant
•    a Phi Delta Kappa Showcase Teacher
