Clubs, Organizations & Activities

There are a wide variety of clubs and activities available to students. To request a new club or activity or for general information about clubs and activities, please contact the .  For information about a club or activity beyond what is listed here, contact the sponsor via FirstClass.  The important point is to "Get Involved!"

DISCLAIMER:  Secondary school students may form noncurriculum related student groups.  The fact that such clubs are permitted to conduct meetings on District premises and may be monitored by school officials shall not constitute school sponsorship or Disctrict endorsement of the purposes of such clubs or the content of their meetings.

Clubs & Activities are divided into two distinct types - curriculum related and noncurriculum related

Curriculum Related Student Groups directly relate to a school's curriculum if:
  • the group's subject matter is actually taught, or will soon be taught, in a regularly offered course;
  • the group's subject matter concerns the body of courses as a whole; or
  • participation in the group is required for a particular course or results in academic credit.

Academic Decathlon Mr. Ahern & Mr. Daughterty The Academic Decathlon is a team competition wherein students match their intellects with students from other schools. Students are tested in ten categories which focus on a specific place or time period. This years topic is China. The topics are: Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Music, Science, Social Science, and Speech.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded for individual events and total scores. Winning teams advance through the local, regional, and state levels of competition. The state champions compete at the national finals.

African-American History Challenge
Mr. Thomas & Mr. Wiley
African American Achievers is a group of male African American students with a GPA of at least 2.5.  It is sponsored by Ms. Erdenberger, Mr. Thomas and Mr. Williams who are responsible for these three objectives of the group: Coomunity contacts and professional development, community service and mentoring younger members of the group.  We meet approximately monthly. DECA Mr. Gustafson & Mr. Sailors DECA, An Association of Marketing Students, is an exclusive organization available to current Marketing 1-2 and 3-4 students. This student organization participates in leadership & development, civic consciousness, competitive, and social activities. There are 1-3 DECA activities per month. Details of the organization are announced and discussed during marketing classes.  
Drama Club & International Thespian Society Ms. Jordan PIf you are interested in any part of theater or entertaining, on-stage or back-stage, you belong in Drama Club!  Come check it out.  All are welcome for Drama Club.  
"If you haven't figured out where YOU belong- It's because you haven't found us!"  We are also members of the International Thespian Society- a sort of Honors Level Drama Club.  Thespians has a point requirement.

FFA Chapter - Biotech Club Mrs. Vaughan FFA is an opportunity to participate in leadership, community involvement, career explorations, and science-related agricultural activities. Every Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM in room. 244.
Fine Lines Ms. Wilson A club for creative writers who would like to see their work published. Pending  
French Club Mrs. Sariscsany & Ms. Mangiameli Traditionally, the French Club participates in the Homecoming Parade and sponsors a hayride with bonfire in the fall. The hayrack ride is open to all International Language students. Winter events may include caroling, karaoke party, progressive dinners, ice or roller skating. Spring events include the UNL Modern Language Fair and French Convention . North High's French Club also takes a trip to France every three years (next trip 2007), and has hosted French teens in the summer. Its members also take advantage of local and statewide cultural offerings. Meetings are planned the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month. Activities at the club meetings include planning for events, international café where students must converse in French, various events planned by the officers.  
Future Business Leaders of America Mr. Dickey FBLA is one of the largest and oldest student organizations in the world.  In creating the most important portfolio of your life, yourself, our student organization creates projects, scholarships, and many other business related activities that will allow the student to enhance their learning opportunities at Omaha North High School, as well as in the business world.  In doing so, FBLA teams up with other student organizations, such as Academy of Finance, allowing for even more growth opportunities for all students who wish to be involved in the business world.  What ever you, the student, decide to do in life, business is one common term throughout the world and I hope FBLA or another area of business can help you grow while attending Omaha North High School. German Club Ms. Long German Club is for everyone that would like to help promote the study of German in the school and in the community. Our activities include sponsorship of an International Language Volleyball Tournament, participation in the Homecoming Parade, promotion of German-American Day, a Gingerbread-Building Contest, carrolling at area retirement homes, a trip to the Amana Colonies, movie nights, games nights, food nights, and much more. JETS Engineering Technology staff JETS (Junior Engineering Technology Society) is an academic team competing in engineering and science. Last year North had 4 teams. The varsity team took second place in the state and the junior varsity took first in state and 16th nationally. In 2007-2008, the varsity team came in 5th in the country and the jr varsity came in 26th nationally. After-school meetings - contact any Engineering Technology staff member  
JROTC Color Guard & Drill Team Sgt. Jeff Edie (R) or Maj. Herb Moore (R) Participate in competitive meets against other local and regional competition. Mon thru Friday; November thru March

Math Club Dr. Holley Students that enjoy mathematics can come to Brown Bag math club for a lunchtime of math problems, games, and puzzles.  Various competitions throughout the region will be attended by the math team. Brown Bag meets every B-day during lunch in Room 175.  
National Honor Society Ms. Connors & Ms. Bruland Service organization dedicated to enriching the community and North High. Application process beginning in February. Based on GPA, participation in school and community activities as well as some volunteer experience. Meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7 a.m. in the Lecture Hall

North Electric Vehicle and Technology Club Mr. Walter We work on constructing several electric cars for the OPPD Power Drive and race them at race tracks around Nebraska Contact the sponsor  www
ProStart Culinary Competition Mrs. Witty & Mrs. Becker  Members are selects by their Culinary Skills Instructor.   Competions vary but are usually held in the early spring.  Meetings will be scheduled by the team members, their mentors, and instructors.  
Science Olympiad Mrs. Loder, Ms. Trimboli & Mr. Tindall Participants in Science Olympiad turn their passion for learning and doing science into preparation for competitive tournaments at local, regional, national and international levels. The events selected by the students are researched and practiced at meetings and on the student's own time. Monday from 3:00 PM -4:30 PM in room 344. Email sponsor to confirm next meeting date.

Bridge Club Ms. Bolay The Bridge Club is designed as a followup to the Bridge In Schools Program which was started at McMillian Middle School (sponsored by Warren Buffett).  There are about 30 Freshmen and Sophomores here at North High who were in that McMillian program.  Those students have been invited to continue their interest in Bridge....also any other students are welcome. Tuesdays in room 363 from 3:00 - 4:30 PM  
Chess Club Dr. Holley & Mr. Slusher All ability levels of players are welcome to come in and play other students. Chess club will meet second and fourth Thursdays after school in Room 205.  
DREAM Mr. Johnson & Ms. Eggleston Students interested in engineering, business, computer programming and information management work with Adopt-A-School partners from Union Pacific Railroad.  Students are paired with a mentor, enjoy activities and have the opportunity for summer jobs and scholarships.    
Fellowship of Christian Athletes Mrs. Cooney, Ms. Williams and Mr. Wiley Athletes and non-atheletes meet together for scripture reading, fellowship, prayer and support. Meets Mondays after school at 7:00 PM.  
Gay-Straight Alliance Ms. Iles The Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is a club which provides a place for all students, of whatever sexual orientation, to feel welcome and comfortable. The group aims to raise awareness of issues facing gay and lesbian students, who face physical and mental abuse at a much higher rate than other students. Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month in room 203.

Just Friends Mrs. Holley, Ms. Gutowski & Mr. Sprague Just Friends is a club that meets once a month after school to give students with disabilities and students without disabilities an opportunity to get to know each other in a fun, friendly atmosphere. There is usually a craft or activity that has been planned that gives students the opportunity to work together and form friendships. For questions - go to either of the sponsors in room 071 Meets four times a year - contact Mrs. Holley for dates.  
Key Club Information is pending Key Club Is affiliated with the Kiwanis Clubs. It is a service organization that has an emphasis on helping children. We do such things as paint houses, serve meals to local Ronald McDonald or Rainbow house, trick or treat for UNICEF, tutoring, etc.  Thursday mornings 7am in room 310  
NorthStar Mr. Johnson Students interested in engineering, business, computer programming and information management work with Adopt-A-School partners from Mutual of Omaha.  Students are paired with a mentor, enjoy activities and have the opportunity for summer jobs and scholarships. Peer Mediators Ms. Freeman Mature students can receive training that prepares them to mediate conflicts between other students. Conflicts are referred to mediators who help solve problems before they escalate into serious conflicts Meetings vary, contact the sponsor.  
Role Playing Club Ms. Strayer & Mr. Tindall Looking for something different to do? Want to meet new people and make new friends? Always wondered the purpose of a 20-sided die, or maybe you already love Role Playing but can never find people or space to play? Come hang out with us every Wednesday and Friday after school and learn how to make your own characters, run a game, play different systems and have a great time! Wednesday & Friday from 3:00 - 4:00 PM in room 50A (Computer Center) or contact Ms. Strayer-Gass, , Jwelda "Joy" Myrick, or Michele "Shelley" Siderewicz.

Video Game Club Ms. Iles The purpose of Video Game Club is to give members a semi-pro look into the world of video games. This achieved through discussions, along side with acutally playing video games. We offer members the opportunity to express their opinions on their favorite games, and for other members to give their counter opinions. Meets Tuesdays in room 203 from 3:00 - 4:25 PM
