The Fifth of May was celebrated at Omaha North High with our annual Spring Raku fire. It was a "NO" school day for students as they had the day off. Thirty-six students, however, volunteered to attend and run our firing party. We had guests from Omaha Benson and Omaha South with their instructors, Sharon Carr and Marcia Schutz respectively. An accurate count placed the number of pots fired at over 500! We worked from 7:00 AM until 5:45 PM to get that job done firing three kilns continuously with propane donated by JT at Sapp Brothers, THANKS JT!
What is Raku?
Junior physics students "Green Dream House"
Working in teams of two to three approximately 144 students from six conceptual Physics classes have been designing energy efficient dream houses for a final class project. Teams chose a location anywhere in the world for their dream house. Based on weather and available resources in their chosen location, the teams planned a design using appropriate materials and incorporated into their designs concepts studied in Physics such as energy, technology, sound, and light. All homes must use alternative energy only.
During the investigation and planning students conducted individual experiments related to their dream house plan. These experiments were documented and their findings included with their project presentations.
On Wednesday, May 21st in the Viking Center at Omaha North High School, each group of students will set up presentation boards and various models of their investigations and dream house designs. Parents and members of the business community are invited to come tour the students’ designs and ask them questions about their project.

Senior Scholarship Night at 7:00 PM in the auditorium
From the club sponsor, Mr. Walter:
The North Electric Vehicle and Technology Club (NEVTC) got sixth overall in the advanced category out of 25 teams and 60 vehicles at the state finals. Dan Concannon was driving our A99 vehicle which place four in braking, fifth in maneuverability, second in documentation, and sixth in the endurance race. Dan also received a $1000 scholarship from OPPD. We, as a team, were invited to OPPD's annual customers meeting which consisted of the five local mayors and over 200 prominent business leaders, where Dan was introduced as the scholarship winner. After the breakfast, while Dan was explaining the details of our North High power drive program, one of the OPPD upper-management employees congratulated Dan on his accomplishments and offered him a summer internship at OPPD.
