Omaha North High Magnet School Celebrates Homecoming with Annual Parade Contacts: , Homecoming Chairperson, , Principal This annual “Viking Tradition” continues to be the largest high school homecoming parade in the area, showcasing floats created by Omaha North clubs, athletic teams and other extracurricular groups, performing music by the Omaha North Marching Band, and celebrating partnerships in north Omaha. Date: September 25, 2009 Time: 1:15pm start Route: Parade starts at at 1:15 at Miller Park (30th and Redick) and proceeds north on 30th Street, ending at Kelley’s North Bowl (30th and Bondesson) with the last group arriving around 2:30. Theme: “Under the Big Top”
Twenty-five students at Omaha North High Magnet School have earned recognition by the College Board for their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams.
The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of yearlong courses and exams. Four 2009 Omaha North graduates were named “AP Scholars with Distinction,” one of the highest honors bestowed by the College Board. Each qualified by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. The four graduates honored are Casey Griffin, Justine Kohtz, Caleb Peterson, and William Switzer.
Six students were named “AP Scholars with Honor,” qualifying by earning an average of 3.25 or higher and grades of 3 or higher or four or more of these exams. The honorees from the Class of 2009 are Justin Asuncion, Benjamin Kammerer, and Kayla Klepper; current seniors Daniel Geschwender, Hannah Pinnt, and Chelsea Rasing were also honored.
Fifteen other students received an AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams, with grades of three or higher. The AP Scholars are Shane Beasley, Ravan Charles, Andrew Christensen, Jordan Franklin, Derek Jeck, Kayli Lake, Skyler Lewis, Cameron Mount, Tessa Phillips, and Emily Williams (all 2009 graduates) and seniors Laura Armitage, Walter Bircher, Matthew DeVeney, John Glassman, and Kelsey Schuluter. With AP college-level work this year, the 8 current seniors can earn another AP Scholar Award in 2010.
One hundred-forty seven students at Omaha North High Magnet School took 286 AP Exams in May 2009 after completing challenging college-level courses at North High School. Omaha North High Magnet School fifteen college-level Advanced Placement courses to students in tenth through twelfth grades. In addition, Omaha North offers opportunities for college-level credit through Dual Enrollment with the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Metro Community College as well as through the nationally-recognized consortium Project Lead the Way.
Omaha North High Magnet School, Dr. Robert Franklin of UNO and other community sponsors welcome your participation in the Homeless Ethiopian Youths Clothing Campaign scheduled for September 1, 2009 to October 30, 2009. As a participant, we are requesting local sponsors or community organizat ions to assist in separating, folding, labeling, boxing donated clothes into appropriate categories (i.e.: infants, boys/girls). The purpose of the campaign is to collect clothing for the homeless youths of Ethiopia. The goal is to collect enough donations to clothe one child per day, year round, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Omaha North High Magnet School’s Conflict Managers and Sponsor, Carrie Freeman, Dean of Students will be responsible for collecting, organizing, and providing donation boxes for each school who wishes to participate. Once weekly, the clothing will be collected from each school and taken to a location to be processed (re-cleaned, packaged and shipped to Ethiopia).
