Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held in the MPC from 12:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

Forty-three juniors and seniors took part in a service clean-up project at Fontenelle Park on Thursday, November 05, 2009 during All-Testing day. We started by walking the baseball and softball areas picking up trash and followed that by taking rakes and trash bags to the same areas. We ended up filling some sixty fifty gallon bags with leaves in 2 and ½ hours.

 

 
       
5   There will be a Title I meeting with parents of eligible students on November 5 at 1:00 PM in the Viking Center.  Eligible parents have already been contacted.  The agenda includes an overview of the Title I program and how it will be used to improve student performance in math and reading.  Parents with questions can contact Michael Poore at 402 557-3487  
       
5   Congratulations to Kris Martin and Andrew Schroeder for finishing first and second in the American Business Competition at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln.  Over 200 students, from schools around the state, competed in competitions and these students finished top in their categories.  Great Job!  
       
6   School is closed on November 6th for a teacher workday.  
       
11   OPS parents, staff and community are invited to attend a joint Community Forum for the Diversity Task Force and Elementary Learning Centers Task Force sponsored by the Learning Community.  The date is Thursday 10, 6:00 p.m. at the Thompson Alumni Center, University of Nebraska at Omaha, 6705 Dodge Street.  For more information, call the Learning Community office at 964-2405.

On Wednesday, November 18th, a dozen Omaha North High Magnet students shared a Points Of Light award with the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Service Learning Academy. A trophy was presented by Governor Dave Heineman for work in Service Learning. This national recognition is a reflection of what the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Omaha North High Magnet School are doing together to improve our community

Andrew Chaikan, an award winning science journalist and space historian, will speak to selected classes in an assembly on November 19 in the auditorium during B2 class.  Mr. Chaikan wrote the book A Man in the Moon: The Voyages of the Apollo Astronauts upon which the HBO series From the Earth to the Moon is based.

 
       
19   The total number of pages printed by network printers at North since August 15, 2009 is 170,860 as of mid-day on November 19, 2009.  Before printing, be sure you really need that copy.

Rook Taylor, a 1963 graduate of North and outstanding athlete in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track, was inducted in the OPS Athletic Hall of  Fame on Saturday 11-21-09.  This picture was take on 11-20 @ North during a school tour with his family and former teammates.

 
       
21   On Nov 21, 10 members of the Science Olympiad team competed in the OPS district competition against Central, Burke, and Northwest high schools . Amy Horihan and  Kyle Cippera placed 3rd in Write-it-do-it, John Glissman and Anthony Kothz placed 3rd in Ecology, Amy Horihan and Eli Trausch placed 2nd in Experimental Design, and Kyle Cippera placed 2nd in Cell Biology.  Other members did well in the other events.

UPDATE as of November 13, 2009: All appointments for donating blood are now full.  If you are still interested, you can contact Mrs. Geiger via FirstClass to be put on a waiting list.

A Blood Drive will be held at North on November 23, 2009 from 7:30 AM - 1:30 PM.  Donors can reserve a time online or by emailing Mrs. Geiger.  The drive is sponsored by Mrs. Geiger's University Seminar students.  Appointments are available every 15 minutes.

25   School will be closed on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 for a teacher workday.  
       
26-27   School will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.  
       
30   Twenty-two students from Missouri Valley High School (Iowa) will be visiting North today.
