21st Annual Truss Bustin Competition Brings Success to North

On Saturday February 21, 2009, two hundred thirteen trusses were broken at the Quest Center celebrating twenty one years of engineering excellence. North High Engineering magnet students took half of the top fifty places. Caleb P., Omaha North senior,

took first place with a 30.7g truss that held 371 lbs. The Strength Factor for Caleb’s truss was 5.1, only the second time in the history of the competition that a student was able to go above 5.0, a barrier that many engineers said was the limit. Caleb is the second North engineering student to break the barrier, following Dan Wilwerding who accomplished this goal in 2003.

JETS TEAMS Competition February 25, 2009 @ Nebraska City Union

Omaha North High Engineering Magnet sent four teams to the competition; one senior and one junior Varsity team and a junior and sophomore Junior Varsity team. Our students did very well.  Both of the Junior Varsity teams took overall regional prizes.

Junior Varsity team B took first place overall and first place in Division 7 which will automatically move them to the National level of competition.

The senior team, in their third year of competition (sixteenth nationally two years ago and fifth place nationally last year) won first in their division. They will move once again to National rankings. Members include: Tailla S., Ed H., Caleb P., Steve B., Crystine M. and Tessa P. These seniors have seen a long run of success, not only with JETS but with their overall high school activities and honors.
