The "Midnight Masquerade Prom" will be held on April 18, 2009 from 8 - 11:00 PM at the Skutt Student Center on the campus of Creighton University. Tickets are $17.00/single and $32.00/couple. Show your school spirit with a theme mask. Masks can be purchased at $3.00 for one or $4.00 for two.

Twenty-three North High art students submitted 39 pieces of art and every one of them has been accepted. The pieces on display at the Lux Center for the Arts, 2601 North 48th Street in Lincoln on April 3, 2009 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM as part of the Lincoln Area Juried Art . Students and parents are encouraged to attend.

Congrats to the math team for a fine performance at the Northwest Missouri State University mathematics contest. In the senior division, the team of Skyler L., Casey G., Ben K., Kayla K., and Mike F. finished first, while individually Ben was 7th, Casey was 4th and Skyler was 2nd.
In the Junior division, the team of Dan G., Darin B., Lizz M., and Emily A. finished second, while individually Dan G. was second.
In the sophomore division, the team of Jesse E., Victoria C., Evan S., and Nate S. finished first, while individually Victoria was 4th, and Jesse was 1st.
Omaha North, King Science Magnet Students to Serve with UNO Students, Mutual of Omaha employees
Once again this year, in cooperation with the University of Nebraska-Omaha’s Seven Days of Service, Omaha North High Magnet School students will serve the metro area while learning. Over 100 Omaha North students will join UNO students and Mutual of Omaha employees on Monday, March 14 at Camp Eppley to create a new play area for children, building a new storage building, and sprucing up the camp grounds. Camp Eppley is operated by the Salvation Army, a past partner with Omaha North and UNO service learning projects. King Science and Technology Magnet students will join the students from Omaha North and UNO on Wednesday, March 16, to contribute to the project.
Of note: • Monday and Wednesday students will be at Camp Eppley from 8:30am-2:00pm. • Camp Eppley is south of Bellevue, NE, on US 75, just north of the Platte River. • This is the 7th year of UNO students performing “Seven Days of Service” during the university’s spring break. • This is the 4th year Omaha North students have joined UNO students during the Seven Days of Service. This is one annual event of the on-going service learning partnership between the two institutions. • Mutual of Omaha employees are participating as part of the company’s “100 Days of Caring” to coincide with the centennial of the company’s founding.

JETS TEAMS Competition February 25, 2009 @ Nebraska City Union
Omaha North High Engineering Magnet sent four teams to the competition; one senior and one junior Varsity team and a junior and sophomore Junior Varsity team. Our students did very well. Both of the Junior Varsity teams took overall regional prizes.
Junior Varsity team B took first place overall and first place in Division 7 which will automatically move them to the National level of competition.
The senior team, in their third year of competition (sixteenth nationally two years ago and fifth place nationally last year) won first in their division. They will move once again to National rankings. Members include: Tailla S., Ed H., Caleb P., Steve B., Crystine M. and Tessa P. These seniors have seen a long run of success, not only with JETS but with their overall high school activities and honors.
21st Annual Truss Bustin Competition Brings Success to North
On Saturday February 21, 2009, two hundred thirteen trusses were broken at the Quest Center celebrating twenty one years of engineering excellence. North High Engineering magnet students took half of the top fifty places. Caleb P., Omaha North senior,
took first place with a 30.7g truss that held 371 lbs. The Strength Factor for Caleb’s truss was 5.1, only the second time in the history of the competition that a student was able to go above 5.0, a barrier that many engineers said was the limit. Caleb is the second North engineering student to break the barrier, following Dan Wilwerding who accomplished this goal in 2003.
FEB 2: Course Registration for the 2009-2010 school year begins with a Orientation Homeroom for grades 9-11 from 10:20 - 11:01 AM. (NOTE: This homeroom will now take place on Friday, January 30 not February 2) All students will receive Course Guides and fill in their Course Selection Forms on this day. Students will also take a copy of the forms home iwth them so they can make changes with their parents, if need be. Students also receive a copy of the Career Center application at this time.
FEB 9-13: Students register one-on-one with their counselors in the GRC during science classes.
Engineering Week will be opened with a ceremony at North High starting at 9:30 AM on Friday, February 13 in rooms 240-242. Mayor Michael Fahey will not only proclaim the week as Engineering Week but will also participate in a truss-busting activity. Student presentations, projects and awards from Skinner Elementary and Omaha North will also be on display. Student testimonials and faculty presentations on "A Look into the Future" on the new building addition and "What is Service Learning?" will complete the day's activities.

Students from Omaha North recently had a luncheon meeting with Mayor Fahey of Omaha. The group is developing a website for the Democratic Professional Network Organization and met with the mayor to discuss that project.

The Omaha North High Magnet VEX Robotics team. North began its season with The OPS Open held at Benson High on January 31st . Our team of Walter, Dan, Josie, Eric, Jesse and Trevor , pictured here with Principal Gene Haynes, reached the quarters in their first robotic competition. They were also awarded the Engineering Design trophy for best robotic design. Next competition is at Mt Michaels in March.

Middle school students are invited to attend the January 24th basketball game with Omaha Westside. Pizza will be served during a 5:00 PM "meet and greet" with our head coaches as well as the athletic director. The evening continues with the girl's basketball game at 5:30 PM, a tour of the building between the games and the boy's game at 7:00 PM.
