Congratulations to the newly elected Officers for the 2009-2010 Student Council:
North's NorthSTAR group recently visited Mayor Fahey and spent time at the City County Building. Here is a synopsis of the event from North student Elise White.
For our April NorthSTAR event we enjoyed a lunch at Spaghetti Works and a tour of the City County Building. We got to see where the City Council meets, pictures of the former mayors, and the gifts Omaha has received from our sister cities. Then we went to the Mayor's office, and it was surprising how many important people Mayor Fahey has met. The tour guide said that one of the main things he enjoys is that he gets to meet famous people, like President Obama. We also saw that the Mayor has a North ID for the class of 2009. When we talked to the city planner he told us about the city's plans for downtown as well as how Omaha will expand in the coming decades. He showed us pictures of other cities' downtown areas and focused on Portland, Oregon's street car system. City planners would like that for Omaha. Some students asked questions and we found out that there aren't many plans for north Omaha. Mayor Fahey described what it's like being mayor and some of the funny things that happened while he was in office. Overall it was an interesting and informative event.
Congratulations to these students on their induction into the National Honor Society. The induction ceremony takes place on Wednesday, April 29th at 7 PM under the Mutual of Omaha dome.

Students watch with delight as Mr. Manley, vocal music teacher, gets a facial from Zulu from the Nebraska Humane Society.
Student Council is hosting a food drive for the Omaha Food Band this week and next (4/20-4/30) during B2 classes. Students are to bring non-perishable items to their B2 classes. The class with the most items collected will receive doughnuts and juice! Student Council students will stop by to collect items at the end of each B2, so please just have them ready for pick-up. Student Council members will stop by your classroom on Monday, April 20, to collect any items AND give a little promotion about the drive. If you do not have a B2 class and wish to donate, please see Ms. Beck in the Curriculum Center.
