A view from 37th Street looking East.  The skeleton framework is the future two story greenhouse.

The installation of the roof is now complete. With it, work will be able to continue with less concern for the weather.

One advantage to the on-campus construction is the ease of "field trips."  Now, engineering students have only to walk to the addition - properly equipped with a construction helmet for safety.

Once inside the addition, the engineering staff is able to bring concepts into real-life as the class monitors the construction.

This shot, taken from 37th street looking towards the 010 exit door (on the other side of construction equipment in the photograph) illustrates the "canyon" being created.  The addition and the main building are not connected on the West side. This provides a fire exit and the infusion of natural light.  This area will be an emergency exit only from the main building.

Melanie Maddox of WOWT interviews a North engineering student as part of her "High School Cribs" segment that is slated to air in late October, 2009.

A view from ground level from 37th Street

Looking west on the top floor.  Note the beginning of conduit installation and the steel decking that will eventually be covered by the concrete floor.

Another view of the 2nd floor

Looking back towards the existing building from the 1st floor.

A view on the 2nd floor looking East.  Conduit is being installed to house electrical cabling prior to the pouring of the concrete floor.

A close up of the conduit.  Precise measurements are required to guarantee that the conduit is where it is supposed to be located.  Once the concrete is poured, it's too late.

Steel is shown being placed on the newly poured first floor concrete.

Most of the steel has been staged to the first floor.

May 28 2009

It took nineteen truckloads of cement to complete the first floor "pour" on Thursday, May 28.  By 2:00 PM, however, the pour was complete, power trowels were at work and finish work was being completed.

For more images, download this PDF of the pour.

This photograph was taken from the 2nd floor.  At the left is the beginning of the elevator tower.  To the far right, you can see the North basement wall that will house the new wrestling practice room, the cardio room as well as space for the electric car club.

Here is another picture but from another vantage point on the 2nd floor.

Over 50 holes had to be drilled down @ 48' and filled with concrete to support the new building. The derrick is shown with the "drill bit" installed.

A closer look of the "drill bit."  Removing the derrick from the site takes @ three full work days.

Nov 05 2008
Concrete is poured for the new parking lot.

Oct 30 2008
After three weeks of heavy rain, not much has been accomplished on the new addition.  Warmer weather and a lack of rain in the forecast will help get construction running again.

Construction of the new parking lot located to the East of the MPC begins.  It is intended to replace the lost Faculty parking lot.
