Date Award
9/27 Fifteen students from Omaha North High Magnet School have earned recognition by the College Board for their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams.  Two of these students earned the highest recognition, “National AP Scholar.”

One hundred-four students at Omaha North High Magnet School took 170 AP Exams in May 2007 after completing challenging college-level courses at Omaha North High Magnet School.  The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of yearlong courses and exams.

Eric Norrgard and Corey Stone qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a 5-point scale on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.  Norrgard and Stone, both 2007 graduates, are the first North students to earn this award since at least 1997.  Norrgard was designated the State AP Scholar, recognizing the one male and one female student in each U.S. state with grades of 3 or higher on the greatest number of AP Exams, and then the highest average grade on all AP Exams taken.  He is the first State AP Scholar from North since 1998.

Five 2007 Omaha North graduates were named “AP Scholars with Distinction,” one of the highest honors bestowed by the College Board.  Each qualified by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.  In addition to Norrgard and Stone, these students were recognized:  David Guthmann, Benjamin McGill, and Kayce Rich.

Two other 2007 Omaha North graduates have been named “AP Scholars with Honor” by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.  These students are Grant Turner and Benjamin Wagner.  All seven of these “AP Scholars with Distinction” and “AP Scholars with Honors” had received AP Scholar recognition in 2006.

Eight other students received an AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams, with grades of three or higher.  The AP Scholars are Ankit Agrawal, Carly Goodman, Kari Munk,  Robert Swanson, Stephanie Valentine (all 2007 graduates) and seniors Marna Stack, Lucas Thode and Christa Webber.  With AP college-level work this year, Stack, Thode and Webber can earn another AP Scholar Award in 2007.

Omaha North High School offers fourteen college-level Advanced Placement courses to students in ninth through twelfth grades.   For the current school year, 229 students are enrolled in one or more of these courses at Omaha North High Magnet School.   One hundred thirty-two of the Omaha North High Magnet School AP students are current underclassmen.  These students have at least one more year in which to complete college-level work and possibly earn an AP Scholar Award.
