ANIME CLUB:  Will meet on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 4:00 in Room 319.  J. Jordan

 

ART CLUB:  Will meet on Tuesdays from 2:50 till 3:50 in the art room 425.  Students will have studio time, so bring art projects that you want to work on.  We may have other art projects we’ll be working on, too.  See you then!  T. Simmons/Art Club Sponsors

 

BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL COMPUTER LAB – ROOM 215:  Computer Lab is open for student use as follows: Before school from 6:50 to 7:20, Tuesday thru Friday.  After school from 3:10 to 4:10, Tuesday thru Thursday.  K. Means

CHS DRAMA DEPARTMENT:  Will be selling COFFEE, TEA and HOT CHOCOLATE for $1 in the auditorium lobby and at the “C” on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of this week. This will be the Last week of the school year that we will be selling coffee, tea, and hot chocolate!  Stop by and get yours before school on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week!  S. Mead

 

DIVERSITY & EQUALITY:  This week is Diversity and Equality Education Week!  Throughout the week, there will be activities during lunch periods in the courtyard and cafeteria.  Today, Tuesday, come to the courtyard during lunch periods and trace your hand onto a banner that will later be displayed to show the real diversity among the students and staff here at Central!  We’ll see you there!  Continue to listen to the announcements every morning to hear what will be happening the rest of the week for you to participate in DEEW!  S. DOWNTOWN CLEANUP:  Will be Saturday, April 19, from 8:30 to 12:30.  Sign up with your club sponsors and teachers.  Bring friends and family.  Show Downtown the Central Community.  V. Deniston-Reed

 

GIRLS ROCK!:  Thursday, April 17th – ditch the workout and join the ZUMBA party.  Zumba is combined Latin and International music with a fun and effective workout system.  Mrs. Donahoe has arranged for Tena Hahn, local Zumba instructor, to come and teach us about this fitness program.  Wear appropriate attire.  Room 235 at 3:00 PM.  See you there!  T. GIVING BACK 2014!  FUNDRAISING GALA:  Please join Student Council and NHS, Saturday April 26, 11:30pm-2:00am at Midtown Cinema for this exclusive community fundraiser. Help to support Methodist Hospital and the Nebraska Human Society. The cost is $15 which includes access to CineDine Theater, pizza bar with salad and bread sticks, unlimited pop and popcorn and movie. $1 will go to Methodist Hospital, to finish out our brick. Bring items from the NE Humane society wish list and get VIP seating (VIP seating on a first come first serve basis.) There is a very limited amount of tickets for this exclusive event. LIBRARY NEWS: 

·         April is School Library Month.  Every day, in countless communities across our nation and the world, millions of children, students, and adults use libraries to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams—yet school districts across the nation are cutting funding for school libraries and librarians!  You can help to protect your library this week by signing the Declaration for the Right to School Libraries.  Come to the library to sign the Declaration -- or watch for other opportunities throughout the week!  Mrs. Eilers thanks you for your support!

·         The Library will be closed after school today for commencement speaker tryouts.  However, Homework Help wil still be available in Room 233.  Book Club will meet in Mrs. Eilers’ office—Room 228.  B. Eilers

 

O-CLUB:  The next O-Club meeting is at 7:15 on Friday, April 25th, in Room 211.  Attendance is mandatory for all junior and senior members.  Any junior member that is interested in being an O-Club officer next year needs to see Ms. Renshaw prior to the meeting to get information.  J. Renshaw

 

PHILOSOPHY CLUB:  Will meet at 3:00 PM every Thursday in Room 212.  J. Flanagan

 

PROM PROPOSALS: Student Council is sponsoring the first ever prom proposal contest.  If you have a fun and creative way that either you were asked to Prom or you asked someone else to Prom, and they said yes!  Please send us your stories with pictures or videos.  Prom proposals will be judged on originality, creativity, and shock factor!  No staged videos.  Vulgar or inappropriate videos or pictures will not be tolerated and will be turned over to your administrator.  The winners will receive 2 free prom tickets, $50 cash per person, and a gift card for the winning pair and two of their guests at a restaurant of their choice.  All Prom proposals need to be submitted to Ms. Kadar by April 18th at 3:00 PM.  Winners will be announced during the week of Prom.  See the CHS website for further rules and information.  C. PROM TICKETS:  Will go on sale during the week of April 21st. The cost is $15.00 per person or $30.00 per couple. Tickets will be sold before and after school and during all three lunches in the school store. If you are bringing a guest outside of Central you must have the Non-Central student person filled out and faxed to Ms. Kirksey prior to buying your tickets. Forms can be found on the CHS website under the bulletin board.

 

SENIOR NEWS:

·         DEBTS OWED TO THE OMAHA PUBLIC SCHOOLS:  Seniors with outstanding debts, including library fines, are not allowed to receive a diploma or participate in any graduation activity.  If your son or daughter owes Central High School or any OPS school money, please see that the debt is paid as soon as possible.  Fees owed can be viewed on the Parent Portal at https://campus.ops.org/campus/portal/ops.jspThe deadline for paying all outstanding debts is Tuesday, May 13.  Contact any main office secretary at 402-557-3300 if you have questions about any fine other than library fines.  Library fines are exclusively kept by Mrs. Eilers, CHS Librarian.  She must also be contacted by seniors about any OPS library fine that might have been incurred.  Contact Mrs. Eilers, 402-557-3316, or beth.eilers@ops.org.  D. ·          GRADUATION TICKETS:  Tickets will be required for admission to the graduation ceremony.  Each graduate will receive six free tickets and will be able to purchase six additional tickets for $3.00 per ticket.  Tickets are available through May 14 in the School Store.  The School Store is open before school, after school, and over the lunch periods.  To purchase tickets, seniors must bring the filled out “CHS Commencement Ticket Request Form”, signed by parent/guardian.  Please be very selective when purchasing tickets for relatives and friends.  Graduation is a very special event for the seniors and their families.  It is expected that everyone who attends the ceremony will respect the rights of other guests to be able to hear their graduate’s name being read and to see him/her walk across the stage.  D. ·         SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS/SENIOR RECOGNITION NIGHT:  Any member of the senior class who has earned a college scholarship will be honored on Tuesday, May 13, at 7:00 PM in the auditorium.  Only students receiving an invitation from the Counseling Department are allowed to attend.  All students who receive scholarship award letters need to take a copy of the letter, whether they plan to accept the scholarship or not, to Mrs. Ball or Mrs. Meyer in Room 129 in a timely manner.  All scholarship notifications that are received by April 21 will be recognized in the Omaha World-Herald.  D. SOFTBALL:  Any girls interested in softball for next year—There will be a short Softball meeting in Room 149 on Wednesday after school at 3:00.  If you are unable to be at the meeting, please see Coach Neel or Coach Mohr to get the details.  R. Neel

 

STUDENTS TAKING AP EXAMS:  Will report to the cafeteria Tuesday, April 15, 3rd hour for the pre-administration session.  This is required of ALL students taking one or more AP exams.  100% completion is required.  You will receive a pass Tuesday morning and you should report directly to the cafeteria for third hour.  C. TEEN PARENT TAC RECEPTION:  If you are a graduating senior, pregnant or parenting, and NOT enrolled in Central’s FCS “Teen Parent” classes, and would like to participate in the OPS/Assistance League reception honoring your graduation, please see Ms. Cirulis in the Counseling Office, Room 129, by Wednesday, April 16.  Thank you.  K.
