CHS CROSS COUNTRY
General Information & Mutual Understandings
• Practice starts and finishes on time—on most days this will be from 3:30 to 5:15pm. Since practice generally begins with important announcements, the treatment of injuries such as icing or taping should be done prior to this time. Come to practice dressed and ready to run.
• Attendance at practice is mandatory. Absences need to be prearranged with at least 24hr notice and signed by a parent. Practice is to take precedence over other extracurricular clubs, other sports, and/or work— however allowance will be made to prearranged, teacher-signed, school related events such as study sessions or field trips. Email me at
or leave a message on my work phone 557-3300 Ext 7054. Unexcused absences will result in missing meets.
You must practice with the team the day before a meet to be eligible for that meet.
• Practice Attire: You will need a NEW pair of training shoes specific to running, a pair of shorts, a shirt, and socks for each practice session. Have dry and warm clothes (long-sleeve t-shirt, sweatpants, gloves, and stocking hat) in your locker for when the temperature falls or becomes inclement. If the weather becomes life threatening—we will move practice to a secure location.
• Nutrition: You should keep yourself hydrated by sipping on water (or sports drinks low in calories) all day long—keep in mind that you can only absorb so much water per hour. Eat a balanced meal the night before your race and keep sugary and fatty junk foods to a minimum. It is better to come to a workout or meet feeling a little hungry than completely satisfied.
Meet Participation:
- Participation: Decisions about who runs varsity is entirely at the discretion of the coaches. While we may want to do well at certain meets—not everyone will run every meet. Off-season training, head-to-head competition, work ethic in practice, training needs, and attendance may affect our decision as to who will run varsity from meet to meet. If you are injured—check with a coach first. You must practice with the team the day before a meet to be eligible for that meet.
- Travel Arrangements: Since travel to and from meet is the responsibility of the school, other travel arrangements from the meet will not be allowed except for prearranged notes signed by a parent 24hrs prior to the day of the meet. In which case, a coach must meet your parent before you leave the meet.
- Team Uniforms: When we travel, we will dress like a team to and from the meet. The NSAA does not allow any jewelry to be worn, body paint, or exposed under shorts. Long-sleeve T-shirts must be solid white. Sport bras must be a solid color—white, gray, or black. Leggings will be solid black. Uniforms will be returned on the day of your last meet. Failure to do so will result in a fine or replacement fees. You are responsible for the uniform issued to you-I suggest getting a personal bag for that purpose.
- Warm Ups & Cool Downs: The team is expected to warm up and cool down as a team. This is a time to strategize and become focused for the race. Those who do not warm up or cool down with the team as directed by the coaches may forfeit their entry in the meet.
- Show Sportsmanship. Win and lose with grace and dignity.
- Be Respectful: Please show respect to fellow teammates, competitors, coaches, and community members. Disrespect, Foul language, and trespassing are not permitted during practice.
- Consequences: Failure to abide by these rules will result in dismal from practice and competitions: 1st violation = 1 day, 2nd violation = 1 week,3rd violation = asked to leave the team
• Athletic & Dress Codes: The use of drugs and alcohol is not permitted or tolerated. Students must attend classes or have an excused absence in order to practice or compete. Grades must be kept above passing in order to compete. The school dress code will apply to practice and meet situations. Punishment will result in accordance to the respective codes.
• Team Socials: Tradition has it that a family or several families sign up to host the team for a spaghetti dinner the night before meets. These activities are completely optional—even for the coaches!
• Booster Club Membership: The booster club has been extremely generous to us over the years.
• Team Pictures: We will alert you to the date when we will have pictures taken.
