Lettering
AWARDS CRITERIA …
While who letters and who doesn’t is ultimately the discretion of the coaches, there are several ways in which you can earn your varsity letter at the end of the season.
Fundamental Awards Criteria: All athletes must consistently meet these criteria in order to letter.
  • Train in the Off-Season: Athletes who train in the off-season are successful.
  • Demonstrate Team-Pride: attending practice regularly, arriving to practice on time and prepared, participating in team activities, showing respect to the coaches, competitors, and community, cheering on teammates at meets, and helping out when asked to do so.
  • Possess Clear, Realistic Goals: After the first meet, you need to identify a challenging yet appropriate goal and then report your progress to the coach each week.
  • Compete as Varsity Decisions about who runs varsity is entirely at the discretion of the coaches. Off-season training, head-to-head competition, work ethic in practice, and attendance may affect our decision as to who will run varsity from meet to meet. Members of the Conference and District teams will be determined by season-long performances and not just the final meet prior to Conference.
Varsity Lettering Criteria:
  • Top Consideration is given to those who earn a top 15 at districts, or qualify for the State Meet.
  • Additional Consideration is given to those who compete on varsity for the duration of the season including Varsity Conference and Districts.
Other Team Awards Include:
  • Eagle Award is given to those who demonstrate exemplary leadership and commitment to the team.
  • Most Improved Runner is given to those who demonstrate substantial time improvement when it is needed most.
  • Rookie of the Year is awarded to the best newcomer to the team.
  • Scholar Athlete is awarded to those who earn a 4.00 GPA during the 1st Quarter (our CC season.)
  • Runner of the Meet recognizes noteworthy achievement, outstanding efforts, and leadership at a particular meet.
