LaQue Moen-Davis finished 1st in the Triple Jump, 1st in the 100 Meter High Hurdles

Edna D'Souza for finishing in 2nd place at the Girls State Chess Championship

LaQue Moen-Davis for breaking the all-class state record in the triple jump with a jump of 40-6 1/2.

The Computer Programming Team of Josh DeWitt, Ben Susman and Billy Jorgensen for winning 1st place at the University of Nebraska Lincoln Programming Contest. The team of Josh Gusak and Ben Hotchkiss finished in 3rd place.

Joel Kielion for taking 1st place in the Skills USA Culinary Competition and 1st place in the Job Interview Competition. Jessica Smolinski took 1st place in the Baking Competition and 2nd place in the Job Interview Competition.

Neal Schmidt for finishing in 2nd place in Prepared Speech in the Skills USA Nebraska Competition.

Paul Fey, Luke Hawbaker, Doug Knickrehm, and John Lloyd for comprising the team that finished in 2nd place at the State Economics Challenge in the Adam Smith division.

Award winners from the Metro Senior Art Show at Bellevue University: Stephanie Gleason - Best of Show in ceramics, Anna Svobodova - 1st in sculpture, Cody Tenczer - 1st in printmaking, Chelsie Thurman - 2nd in painting, Steve Pelish - 3rd in printmaking, Courtney Smith - 3rd in ceramics, and Alex Carlson - honorable mention in drawing.

Metro Science Fair winners: Ben Polk, 1st in Chemistry; Tyler Faulkner and Brandon Henderson, 1st in Engineering; Catherine Carter, 2nd in Microbiology, and Winslow Dumaine, 3rd in Behavioral Science.

Peter Bock, Sarah Davis, Allison Koehler, Gerson Lopez, Cali Neuberger and Phil Sjogren for qualifying for the DECA International Competition.

Kenneth Dupree for being named Brigade Commander in charge of all JROTC cadets in the OPS District.

The following students for their success at the NW Missouri St. Math Olympiad: Juniors Eric Jizba (1st place), Qianli Wang (5th), Caleb Koch (7th) and Carmen Lau (7th), Seniors Ben Susman (2nd) and Ben Polk (5th). The Junior team took 1st place and the Senior team finished in 2nd.

Central High Tardy Policy

Central has instituted a school-wide tardy policy for the 2008-09 school year. The policy is intended to make students accountable for arriving to all classes on time. The goal is to minimize classroom disruptions which occur when students enter late and to maximize student educational opportunities. The policy stipulates that even if parents call the school to explain why a student will be late to school, that student will still be counted tardy. The only exceptions to this rule are for students who

ride a yellow school bus that arrives late to school, or
bring proof such as a note from a doctor/dentist that they were late for a medically related reason.

The tardy policy has a built in cushion that allows students to be late four times to a given class before Saturday School and/or Suspension After School consequences are mandated. Therefore students who have legitimate reasons to be late to school will not be immediately affected. We appreciate the support of all parents who understand the importance of student attendance and punctuality as it relates to student achievement.
