Dalylight savings time hard on students

Omaha Public high schools have already added 15 more minutes onto the beginning of the school day. That alone caused conflicts with being on time and even being able to wake up in the mornings. And now that we have lost an hour of sleep because of daylight savings, students are really struggling to stay awake throughout the day.

Burke High presents Footloose, the musical!

Just a few weeks of practice remain for the cast and crew of Footloose to put the finishing touches on the show. The musical is set to show Feb. 25, 26, and 27. The cast and crew are excited, but tired, as extra weekend rehearsals and longer hours have been added to make up for lost time because of snow days earlier on.

When Burke students attend Tuesday night basketball games, they often notice a group of 10 girls hard at work in the cafeteria, oblivious to anything but the 6-foot poles they are spinning. The girls transition effortlessly from tosses to turns and back again. They are the Burke High Winter Guard; a group of dedicated and talented students who spend six hours a week perfecting a difficult routine.

After the hustle and bustle of marching season, winter rolls along with snow and winter drum line. During the winter season there are drum lines that compete by themselves, without the band. There are many categories a line can enter in the scholastic, independent, open, and world. In Omaha, there are only two independent lines, Dojo Percussion and 402 Percussion compete during the winter season.

Omaha to host big names in the music industry

 In these upcoming months, Omaha will become the hot spot for concerts in the area. Many bands in genres from metal to pop are making their way to Omaha in hopes of drawing in a big crowd, and with the artists that are scheduled to appear, they will get just that. If you’re into heavy metal, Five Finger Death Punch will surely not disappoint. Their new album “War Is The Answer” will be promoted, however they are sure to perform songs off their older albums as well. While their tour kicked off Sept. 18, their Omaha concert will take place at Sokol Underground on Sept. 30. The show will start at 8 p.m., and tickets are going for a mere $20.
