National Honor Society

Application Guidelines

There are four characteristics required for membership into the Burke Chapter of the National Honor Society: scholarship, leadership, character, and service. 

The application for the Society only requires evidence of leadership and service, since only those students who meet the scholarship and character requirements are invited to apply. 

A least two leadership positions are required, and these positions must be held in  the school or community during the previous 12 months. 

These leadership positions may be elected or appointed. Leadership positions include, but are not limited to: club offices, team captains, class offices, Senior Senate, student government, principal's advisory committee, student ambassadors, leadership conferences, Boys' and Girls' State. 

At least one activity must be with an organization NOT affiliated with Burke High School. School-related activities may include but are not limited to: any Burke High sport, any academic related club, student government, hockey club, drama productions, mock trial, state track volunteer. 

An accumulation of 30 hours of service in at least 4 different activities is required. Community service activities may include, but are not limited to: church activities, volunteer work (no pay), political campaign volunteering, volunteer teaching, and hospital or assisted living volunteering.
