Battalion Commander

  • Command and control the staff
  • Appoint Company Commanders
  • Assign an action officer to monitor each JROTC activity 
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings
  • Announce staff meetings 1 week in advance
  • Supervise staff
  • Monitors all staff activities
  • Brief SAI/AI on the status of each pending activity
  • Meet with every cadet in the program before the RFI
  • Visit every JROTC class each quarter to provide a commanders briefing
  • Conduct a thorough commanders inspection (CI) of one staff section each week
  • Publish a record of each (CI) which includes the corrective action taken
  • Coordinate staff meetings with SAI / AI
  • Set and publish an agenda for staff meetings
  • Inspect the RFI briefing book and cause necessary corrections
  • Review and approve the training schedule weekly
  • Inform the SAI / AI of all discipline problems
  • Attend all Commanders Cup events or direct XO or DC as representative
  • Ensure a promotion board is scheduled and conducted each month
  • Ensure a cadet of the month board is scheduled each month
  • Monitor the awards program and ensure cadets receive timely awards
  • Approve promotions monthly
  • Notify SAI / AI of promotion disapproval
  • Thoroughly inspect each staff function & initiate corrective action before RFI
  • Make recommendations for promotion/reduction of cadets
  • Conduct monthly commanders call to discuss company business
  • Establish a two way communication system in the battalion that keeps the cadets informed as well as the Chain of Command
  • Set the example by wearing uniform all day on uniform days
