Band Uniform Requirments
Band Members,
The 2007-2008 band season is a new season .The band committee has a few requests to make this year’s show run as smoothly as possible. Of course the band will also be continuing many of the old rules from the past years. The number of rules for the band uniforms might be over whelming at first, but they are here to make us look our best. The Burke Band is known for its class, leadership, musicality, and performance on and off the field. To continue these standards of excellence; we ask you to meet all uniform requirements to keep our band looking like the professionals we are. NO EXCEPTIONS!
The committee asks that under your jackets you wear a white t-shirt. This excludes tank tops and shirts with logos. Our jackets are getting older and the use of a tank top creates deodorant stains; we want our jackets to last as long as possible. White T-shirts and black socks will be available to you at a fee ( two dollars for t-shirts one dollar for socks ) if you should happen to forget to bring a white t-shirt or black socks. Shirts with logos are not permitted because the logos will show though the white fabric. Under your Slacks you may wear any color shorts of your choice. The wool pants in the uniform become very hot when marching. I would advise you not to put on anything you will not feel comfortable wearing. The only requirement with our uniforms slacks is that you do not wear any kind of pant/short that could be seen through the uniform due to bulkiness. Pants are forbidden due to the excess amount of fabric that will come out the bottom of the band pants. You might think your pants are short enough, but trust me, they are not. Every band member is required to have a pair of black marching shoes.(to be purchased thru the band) These shoes will be used during the marching , concert season and for parades. Do not lose your black marching shoes!.(PUT YOUR NAME INSIDE THEM)
THESE ARE THE NEW RULES: Rule # 1 is a very important new rule. If you borrow any shoes, hats, etc; you will be required to give the ladies in the uniform room one of the following items: cell phone, car keys, or driver’s license. Your items will be returned once you repay us the favor of returning our items. All girls will wear their hair in a pony tail or braid under their hat (pinned up so that there is no hair showing) Gentlemen will be forced to do the same if their hair is messy and sticking out of the hat.(hair nets will be used to keep hair under hat) All hair must be worn securely under the hat with no possibility of it falling out during the show. Also, no jewelry!! This is distracting to the judges and our band is going for a uniform look. If you absolutely must wear earrings due to recently pierced ears, you may wear a small round stud in your ears.
Thank you for your cooperation and we all look forward to a exciting and fun season
