Burke High School is one of seven comprehensive high schools in the Omaha Public Schools District. The surrounding Burke community is composed of moderate to high-income families who work in business or the professions. In addition, an open enrollment attendance policy makes Burke accessible to students from all areas of the city. Our student population is currently composed of 41% minority students. Approximately 42% of our population is eligible for free or reduced lunch. Community support for education has been a long-standing tradition which has helped Burke High School become an outstanding school known for excellence in the academic and co-curricular areas. The National Commission on Excellence in Education has honored Burke as a Blue Ribbon School.

Career Survey Courses
Burke High School offers a number of courses designed for students who are interested in studying and exploring a specific career area. Students pursue career interests through in-depth classroom activities, field trips, shadowing experiences, speakers, class assignments and projects. These courses are honors level courses designed for students who are highly motivated and display responsible classroom behaviors. The majority of classes are designed for junior and senior level students, and externships may be apart of the course.

Burke High School has recently been designated as the Space and Aeronautics Technology specialty school. We are currently training staff and developing courses to implement this specialty.
Co-Curricular Athletics
Burke sponsors a broad program in both interscholastic and intramural sports, including 19 varsity sports with equal opportunities for male and female students. Other activities include over 50 school-sponsored clubs and organizations. Students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities as a means of developing leadership skills.
