Block Scheduling Update Wednesday, March 03, 2010 (34 reads)
Block Scheduling Update:
Over the past few years the staff at Burke High School has researched the various implications of block scheduling. We continue to look for research based instructional strategies that will allow our students to have the greatest success in all of their classes. Many of those instructional strategies and best teaching practices are most effective and have the greatest impact on student achievement when rooted in extended class time.
Teachers will participate in professional development during plan periods on March 15th and March 29th to strengthen their knowledge of instructional strategies and best practices in education during an extended class period. There will be an information table across from the cafeteria during Parent-Teacher Conferences. If you would like additional information, please stop by!
Note-
April 6 through April 9 Burke will use extended/double periods to administer the Nebraska State Reading Assessment (NeSA-R).
Burke will use extended/double periods during the second semester final schedule.

It is a great time to relax, enjoy a BBQ dinner and visit with other parents and Burke staff. If you haven’t made your reservations, please contact Jana Hofeldt (djhofeldt@tconl.com) immediately. BAC needs you to attend and bid in our silent and oral auctions. You don’t want to miss these great items.

New Schedule for High Schools Thursday, February 11, 2010 (172 reads)
To meet the required hours of instructional time required by the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE), OPS high school students will attend school for the entire day on Thursday, March 4th (additional 1/2 day) and Friday, March 5th (additional full day). These days were originally scheduled to accomodate third quarter Parent/Teacher Conferences. Additionally, the high school day will be extended by 15 minutes every morning beginning Thursday, February 18th to Friday, May 21st. School will start 15 minutes early (at 7:30 am).
Should additional snow days occur in upcoming months, non-student days may need to be repurposed to meet the NDE instructional time requirement. This proposed schedule provides the flexibility needed due to graduation dates, final exams and end of year activities.
Students will still have a day off Monday and Tuesday February 15th & 16th.

10 Day Absence Practice Wednesday, July 23, 2008 (1046 reads)
Student attendance in school is the key to learning. Absences from school have a substantial negative effect on academic performance. The goal is for each student to be in class every day, on time.
