Nebraska State Activities Association (NSAA) Eligibility Agreement

NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association)
NCAA standards require that a student athlete meet certain standards during high school in order to be eligible for financial aid, competition, or practice during the first year in residence at a college or university.
Student athletes first entering collegiate institutions on or after August 1, 19966, in Division I (the most stringent) are required to meet the following guidelines:
1.Graduate from high school
2.Successfully complete a core curriculum of at least 13 academic courses (this core curriculum must include at least four years of English, two in math, one year of algebra and one year of geometry, two in social science, two in natural or physical science; one additional course in English, math, or natural or physical science; and two additional academic courses).
3.Have a satisfactory grade-point average and combined test score on the SAT or ACT based on the selection index scale.
Students planning on participating in athletics at a Division I or Division II college must register with the Clearinghouse. All seniors considering this option should see the Academic Counselor for assistance.
It is noted that the classes and credits needed to graduate from high school may not be sufficient to gain entrance to a particular college or university. Students and parents should contact a counselor if questions arise about necessary credits for entrance into a selected college.

Academic Progress Checks
The Athletic Department at Bryan High School feels that academics are a top priority and will maintain the practice of holding students accountable for their academics. If a student is failing two or more classes at the progress reporting period he/she will be suspended from competition immediately until he/she has no more than one failing grade. Students will not be allowed to practice or play until they are passing at least 3/4 of their classes.
Study table arrangements will be made to assist athletes who are suspended because of poor academic progress. It is the coaches’ responsibility to assist the A.D. with the coordination of academic study table.
