Quill and Scroll International Society
Bryan High School's chapter of Quill and Scroll, the International Honorary Society of High School Journalists, was founded in 1966, and it continues as an active and vital part of Bryan's journalism program. The Society, as a whole, has always taken an active part in raising journalistic standards and in directing the course of high school journalism. The purpose of the organization is to encourage and reward individual achievement in journalism and related fields.
Membership qualifications:
- Students must be a junior or senior, although sophomores may be initiated with membership become effective their junior year,
- Students must be in the upper third of their class scholastically,
- Students must have done superior work in some phase of journalism or school publications, such as writing, editing, advertising, broadcasting, photography, and video.
Activities/Competitions: Activities include an annual initiation ceremony held in conjunction with the Fine Art Banquet. All members of Quill & Scroll have been productive members of the newspaper or yearbook staff, and though those student publications, members have competed in a variety of journalism competitions including those sponsored by the Nebraska High School Press Association, Nebraska School Activities Association, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Creighton University.
