National Banned Book Week is September 27th through October 4th and is a time to reflect upon our freedom of choice in reading. Every year the American Library Association receives over 400 challenges which are demanding the removal of books from libraries. Some frequently challenged books include "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings", "The Golden Compass", "The Color Purple" and "The Chocolate War". Exercise your freedom to read by coming to the library and checking out a frequently challenged book today!
For more information on banned or challenged books, check out the American Library Association's web pages.
