Cross Country

With yet another cross country season under way many students are left wondering if Benson has the dedication to bring home a back to back state championship. With most of the team’s leaders graduating last year can we expect the new seniors to fill the huge footprints left by last year’s alumni? “I know they lost a lot of the team from last year, so it’s given we can’t expect them to do just as good." said benson high school senior Peter Chambers. "But I truly hope they do great.” Chambers also said, “Meier’s is a phenomenal coach!”

Varsity runner Nick Anderson said “We’ve been having really hard practice and the coaches are making sure we show up every day.”

The runners practice usually consist of a quick warm up run, stretching, a run to center street or any equivalent distance, a cool down than a final stretch before ending practice. Anderson said, “The coaches are great guys; they work them very hard and are just fun to be around.” Anderson jokingly said “I just want to make sure when I run, my shoes stay on”.

Anderson is proud of his team because they all want to try hard and do better every practice. Answering any mixed questions about how the team will do this year, Anderson said “We are going to do everything it takes to make it to state and than beat our competition, to bring home another first place trophy.”

We are going to have to dust off another spot on the trophy case, because Benson’s cross country team is expected to bring back yet another state championship.
