After some hard seasons on the football field this years football team will be expecting to do more than just win a single game. Head coach Adam Heuertz told the Benson High News the following about this seasons expectations.
"This season we are counting on a team effort to be successful. This is something we preach at the kids everyday, we are only as good as the eleven we put on the field. For the kind of success we expect this year, it's going to take the entire team to get us there."
Coach Heuertz gave a few names to look out for this season. Cleo Miller, Paul Marrow, Laquan Cribbs, and Martel White are players that Coach Heuertz refered to as team leaders who should be expected to set a good example on and off the feild.
"These are some of our team leaders, and some of the guys we expect to make a lot of plays for us. Cleo has the potential to be an All-State player by his senior year, and Paul represents everything we want Benson Football to be: hardworking, honest, enthusiastic, and academically strong."
On the offensive side of the ball Heuerts is planning on running a shut gun spread option offense (similar to what the Florida Gators and the West Virginia Mountaineers have been running).
"This year we have a couple of play makers in the back feild, look out for Cleo and Kali Louis, they both have a ton of speed, and the capability to break a big run at any moment. There are several seniors on the o-line: Matt Miners is our center, and most of our audibles go through him, his experience is going to be an asset to us this year."
On defense the Bunnies are going to be working out of a 4-4 in order to bring pressure to opposing offenses and force plenty of turnovers. Coach Heuertz had this to say about the defense.
"We feel like we have two of the best defensive ends in the state in Laquan Cribbs and Devin Cook. We will be a much more aggressive team on defense this season, and we are going to bring a lot of pressure to opposing offenses, we hope to generate turnovers every game."
