OPINION
It ‘s Monday morning after yet another disappointing game. Low spirits and negative comments fill the hallways of Benson High. After having already been mentally and physically exhausted, did anyone ever stop to think that trash talking might only bring the players down more?
It is no secret that the Benson Bunnies are not exactly a force to be reckoned with, but perhaps the students are partially to blame. Being a new student to Benson one of the first things I noticed was the negativity shown by many of my peers towards the football team because of their “suckiness” for a lack of better terms. What many students fail to realize is that their comments directly affect the players.
“When I hear the way the other students talk about the team I don’t believe I can succeed.” said senior Devonte Jones.
When the members of our football team hear their classmates verbally bashing them it makes the players feel unappreciated.
“It makes me feel like they don’t appreciate how hard we work.” said Junior Aailyn Wright.
Maybe if we, as students, were a little more positive, we could help bring back the team’s spirit and will to win. Unless you have the guts to get out there and do it yourself you probably shouldn’t be talking. To those of you who stick by Benson through thick and thin keep showing your support and pass on some of that pride to all those who have given up on the bunnies.
