9th GRADE RESEARCH SEMINAR

Students will learn the interdisciplinary skills necessary to successfully participate in project-based learning in this quarter long Magnet course. The course includes instruction in the decision sciences, research skills, communication skills, project management, application of technology and use of multi-media tools for presentation. Students will apply these skills to a community issue. (one quarter)

Honors students will learn the interdisciplinary skills necessary to successfully participate in project-based learning in this quarter long Magnet course. Students will apply these skills to an honors level community issue. (one quarter)

AVID 1-2 HONORS (Advancement Via Individual Determination)

Students selected for AVID will study the skills needed to be successful in advanced level honors and AP courses in preparation for enrollment in a four year college. Students in the AVID program will be required to enroll in honors level of core curriculum courses.

Students will create a solution to a community-based problem focused on the Arts, Media and Culture. Students will apply the decision sciences strategies and follow the procedures to create a solution based on the strategic decision. Student generated problems and issues will guide the content of the seminar. Honors credit will be available for students who create a project solution using the established format that is above the requirements of the course.
