CULINARY SKILLS AND CULINARY MANAGEMENT
Culinary Skills and Culinary Management replaces the existing Foods 3-4 and Gourmet Foods classes. Benson High will serve as the food service industry pilot program for the Omaha Public Schools. Why the change? Restaurant and food service industry is the fastest career cluster in the United States. Employment opportunities are enormous and many of the jobs will be high paying.
The Culinary classes will implement the curriculum sponsored and development by the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation. This curriculum enhances food preparation skills in addition to customer relations, accounting; food cost controls and marketing. As a participant in this course, students are able to apply for internships and college scholarships. Through this program students have the opportunity to earn college credits at any Nebraska Community College. The culinary program is a great step for student's career plans.
