Welcome to the Mr. Susemihl's Music web page
I am at Western Hills full time and my hours are 8:30 to 4:05 Monday through Friday. You can reach me by phone by calling the school (554-1510) or at my email address: Paul.Susemihl@ops.org.
At this site, I will let you know what is happening in the Music classroom. I believe Music Education is essential to the total education of each child. Research tells us that students who are musicians learn to read and do math better than a student who doesn't participate in Music activities.
Some special Music activities available to students at Western Hills:
Chorus is an optional group of singers who are in the 5th and 6th grades. We rehearse one day a week during the school day for 30 minutes. Chorus will perform at special events during the year: the Holiday Program, Benson Area Concert, and All-City Music Festival (for selected 6th graders). Any student who choses to be in Chorus must show good citizenship and must work diligently. The singers must attend all rehearsals during the year unless they are absent.
The students in 4th grade learn to play recorders during one of their Music times in the 10-day cycle. There are instruments available for students to use, however, students may purchase their own recorders through Mr. Susemihl at a price of $3. Please know that if students use the school's recorders, they are disinfected after each use.
Each year we have an all-school holiday program. The program is usually scheduled during the week previous to our winter break.
Students in the 3rd and 6th grades in OPS take 4 CRT tests during the year. The CRTs test students on musical skills and knowledge of musical terms and symbols.
