All schools in the Omaha Public Schools will implement the same three goals.
- Goals 1 and 2 address Aim 1: High Student Achievement
- Goal 3 addresses Aim 2: Safe and Secure Learning Environment
Goal #1
Students will read, write, speak, listen, and interpret visual presentations to meet expectations, grade level and above.
Pinewood EXCELS Plan 2008-2009 for Goal #1:
Focus: Fluency
Focus: Comprehension
Focus: Vocabulary
Strategies:
- Implementing and utilizing Running Records with MSV
- Comprehension Strategies for all teachers to be taught in all classrooms, including Specialist's classes.
- More emphasis on Fluency utilizing continual Fluency checks and monitoring
- Vocabulary word walls for every classroom and interactive word wall encouraging better word choice
- After school tutoring, Study Hall, Mentors, Co-teaching with SpEd teachers, Literacy Coaches, and Title I Summer School to support reading.
Goal #2
Students will apply mathematics and science skills, concepts and processes, which are relevant and important in everyday life and advanced studies to meet expectations, grade level and above.
Pinewood EXCELS Plan 2008-2009 for Goal #2:
Focus: Thinking through Problem Solving
Focus: Math Vocabulary
Focus: Math Facts
Strategies:
- Define steps of problem-solving at each grade level using math anchor charts
- Teach Grade-level math vocabulary
- Partner Game strategy (Great Source)
Goal #3
Students will demonstrate respect and responsibility for each other in the learning environment and school activities.
Pinewood EXCELS Plan 2008-2009 for Goal #3:
Focus: Common Areas Procedures/Expectations
Focus: Support for Staff/Discipline
Focus: Family involvement
Strategies:
- Tighten up common area procedures
- Pilot lunch Detention/Enrichment plan in 5/6 Possible implementation with 3/4 second semester Fun enrichment activities will run opposite of lunch detentions, students with consistently good behavior will have special events and field trips
- Red Yellow Green Folder Plan suggestion
- Teachers are required to do at least 2 grade level or classroom family events
- Home visits will be made for parents who do not conferences or SATs
- Create a SSDS Sub-Team to create and implement a Wellness Plan
