 Second Graders have their Group Guidance time once a week.  The main goals of Group Guidance for Second Grade are to:

1. identify strengths and weaknesses in relationship to effective and appropriate decision-making skills.
2. develop a positive work ethic.
3. getting along with others.
4. encourage the development of the personal assits needed for a successful future.

August / September

Assist studnets to recognize their strengths and abilities to promote better self-esteem.
Help students understand their effect on the feelings and behavior of others.

October

Discuss the importance of understanding and following group expectations.


November

Help students practice positive decision-making skills by identifying steps in making a decision.
Work on recognizing the harmful effects of poisons, tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.


December

Students will learn how, where, and when to seek help.
We will talk about real versus imagined fears and worries and identify people who could be trusted to help with these concerns.


January

Students learn about the need for perseverance in the completion of challenging tasks.


February

Students are given opportunities to demonstrate the ability to cooperate in a learning activity.


March

Students are given the opportunity to recognize that learning can take place in a variety of settings and from people of various backgrounds.


April

Students will compare and contrast work roles in order to become familiar with personal interests.


May

Students are given opportunities to identify work roles to gain an understanding of reasons why people work.
