First Grade

 First Graders have their Group Guidance time once a week.  The main goals of Group Guidance for First Grade are to:

1. help students develop respect for themselves and others.
2. help students develop an understanding of cause and effect as it is related to behavior
3. assist students to assess their own personal preferences as related to careers and interests.
4. encourage the development of the personal assits needed for a successful future.

August / September

Students work on demonstrating active listening skills by playing various listening games and following oral directions.
Life events can affect our behaviors and feelings.  Students learn to identify feelings and deal with them appropriately.

October

Students practice sharing and cooperation.


November

The topics of staying healthy and drug free are emphasized this month.


December

Students work on identifying three behavior options in a problem situation.


January

Students examine the qualities needed in the completion of a task.


February

Students identify productive study habits.


March

Students are given the opportunity to recognize diversity in order to promote healthy and peaceful relationships.


April

Students explore their individual uniqueness and how it relates to the world of work.


May

Students are given opportunities to recognize the roles of males/females in the job market and become acquainted with a variety of occupations.  Additionally, constructive uses of leisure time are discussed.
