March 9th-13th - We will be spending most of our reading time this week working on our last practice book for the Buros test. We are scoring the test each day to see how we are doing, so ask your 3rd grader how they did each day!
Monday - Part 1 tests over word meaning and is mainly about prefixes and suffixes and how they change the meaning of words.
Tuesday - Part 2 tests over details in a story. They are asked to write the characters, setting - place & time, problem in the story and 3 events leading to how the problem was solved.
Wed. - Part 3 tests over writing a summary of a story. The more detail they write, the better the score! It also has some comparisons of the characters.
Thurs - Part 4 tests over writing a summary and more comparing/contrasting.
Fri. - Part 5 tests over important details in a story and the order of events.
Mon. - Part 6 tests over reading charts, ads, glossaries, etc. and finding information.
As you can see the test is very intense. We will check each section daily and you can see the practice booklet when we meet for conferences.
The official testing will begin on Monday,March 23-March 31st. The most important thing you can do for your child now is to establish a good routine, including an early bedtime and make sure they are eating a good balanced diet. Those 2 factors make a big difference with learning!
As always, thanks for your help and support! And I'll see you at conferences!
