August- Listening

Safe, Secure and Disciplined Schools (SSDS) was developed to provide the implementation and sustainability structure for the Omaha Public Schools Educational Aim #2 - Safe and Secure Learning Environments.  The SSDS staff provides strategic direction and resources. 

Each school has an SSDS leadership team that utilizes the resources of personnel and materials to design and implement its action plan.  This planning process is also part of EXCELS PLUS and the strategic focus of the Omaha Public Schools.

 

The SSDS leadership team members at Joslyn are Kim Winkelbauer, Nicole Kennedy, Stephanie Randall, Becky Bartels, Rhonda Obradovich, Pam Kautz, and Susie McKenzie.

 

If you have any suggestions on how to keep our school safe feel free to let us know.  There is a suggestion box located in the front office.

STOP and THINK Steps:

 

 1. Stop and Think.

  - Teacher (or parent) prompts student as to what behavior they need to see.

        -example: "Stop and Think- you are not being respectful.  Good listeners look at the person who is talking, think about what is being said, and no interrupting."

 

2. Good Choice or Bad Choice?

 

  -Are you going to be a good listener? 

  -Give student time to choose.

       -Remind student of what will happen for each choice.

 

 

3. What are my Choices or Steps?

  -Teacher/ parent can remind student.

 

4. Do It!

  Teacher/ parent can prompt student if they forget a step.

 

5. Say "Good Job"!

  -Teacher/ parent should make sure the student tells him or herself "good job" and reinforces the appropriate behavior.

 

   -Teacher/ parent may also reward with positive pat or other extrinsic motivator.
