• Gomez was born on August 10, 1932.
• He attended Omaha High School.
• At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corp in Omaha.
• He fought in the Korean Conflict .
•  On September 14, 1951 Edward laid his body across a grenade to save the lives of his machine gun team.
• The Metal of Honor and the Purple Heart, two of the highest honors in the service, was given to Private 1st Class Gomez.
• An elementary school and a street have been namedto honor him in South Omaha.
