Edward "Babe" Gomez Heritage Elementary School replaces the existing Marrs Elementary School. The Edward "Babe" Gomez Heritage Elementary School, a completely new facility with a gross area of 77,000 SF, is located in a wooded setting. The design incorporates three classroom wings, each having a Discovery Center. These Discovery Centers serve as multiple use teaching areas and are an extension of the Media Center. Each Discovery Center has computers and reference materials. This new school utilizes up to date technology, a geothermal well field and natural daylight to provide state of the art teaching facilities.
The school is named after Edward "Babe" Gomez. He was from South Omaha and grew up in this neighborhood. He was a Medal of Honor winner during the Korean War. He threw himself on a grenade to save the other men in his group. The word "Heritage" in our school name represents all the various ethnic groups that have lived in this area.
