Students Reading

Currently, we are learning how to appropriately pick a book that is Just Right for that student. Sometimes even a book that can be a little hard can be just right. It just has to motivate that and that can often be a big difference maker.
In addition, they are learning how to respond to their text. Many kids who read may see the information about what the main characters are doing or what the picture is about but their are often a lot more things about a story that is often missed. They are learning about what the author is wants them to learn or what about the story was
interesting or what kind of books remind you of this story?

Writing
The students in room 222 have really be working hard on writing. In the beginning of October, they wrote a letter to a soldier in Iraq (A friend of mine). We practiced writing good sentences that make sense and are interesting to read. They really loved writing a letter to a real soldier. We are waiting to see if he responds back to us.
Math:
My fourth and 5th graders are currently learning multiplication touch math. Math can often be hard to understand, but when students have things then can help them visualize the numbers it may become easier for them.
My 3rd graders are learnign how to add and subtract double digit numbers. This is still a little difficult for them and will take a lot of practice.
A few times a week the students will do math and reading centers. This is where they do the work they have done in class independently.
Here are some examples of my 3rd-5th graders doing centers.

I will be adding some pictures of student once in a while to this page. Keep Watch!!!
