Welcome and Bienvenidos to a very exciting 2009-2010 school year! Ms. Kennedy, our paraprofessional, is looking forward to her first year at Field Club.  We have completed our units on nursery rhymes, patterning, and classification and sorting and have been busy working on letters, sounds, and the first 25 words from our assessment lists.

We recently spent a wonderful sunny day at Vala's Pumpkin Patch. Many thanks to Mrs. Toledo, Mrs. Colello, and Mr Pope who were our parent helpers for this field trip.

Our Halloween parade and party will begin on Friday, October 30th at 2:00.  Weather permitting, the parade will make the path around several blocks to the east of Field Club and return to the building.  Only Kindergarten children may wear their costumes to school on this day. All other grades are to change into the costumes before the parade begins.

Parents are welcome to visit our classroom at any time upon checking in at the office.  Please remember, you are one of the most important components to your child's learning experiences.

  About Ms. Wassom

I am currently in my seventh year of teaching at Field Club.  My first two years here were spent teaching two half day sessions of Pre-K.  My third year here offered me the opportunity to move to a full day ESL program in kindergartenPrior to Field Club, I taught 1st grade at St. Pius X in Omaha 1974-79 before moving to Lincoln, Ne. and Storm Lake, Iowa.  My return to Omaha in 1984 brought me the chance to teach for OPS at Jefferson Elementary in kindergarten. Two years later, a move to Beals Elementary to take the place of a retiring teacher, offered me the terrific opportunity to begin working with non-English speakers in a classroom setting.  After 13 years at Beals, I was moved to Castelar Elementary to pilot their kindergarten dual language program.  Two years later, a chance to move to Field Club provided me the opportunity to work with our families in this setting.

As you might be aware, music has touched my heart in a huge way.  I have sung with The Omaha Symphonic Chorus since 1985 and have also served on the Board of Director's since 1993.  I also have been blessed by the opportunity to play and sing at four churches in the Omaha and surrounding area most weekends during the year.  I play piano, flute, organ, keyboard, oboe, saxophone, ukelele, recorder, and have been known to fill in as a percussionist in school bands when one was not available.  I also enjoy reading and trying out new recipes in my kitchen.

This past summer I performed in Carnegie Hall with other members of The Omaha Symphonic Chorus.  It was an exciting experience as our conductor, Dr. Greg Zielke, made his conducting debut at our concert.  I also had the opportunity to be one of 18 singers who spent two weeks in a recording studio creating a c.d. for composer John Novak.  This c.d. will be released for sell to the public later this fall.

I have two grown children, Amber, who is a manager at AAA and recently turned 30 and a son, Jordan, who works at Wheatfields who is 32.  I also have a 6 year old grandson Taylor who inspires my involvement with other families in the Omaha area who have members who have autism.  Taylor goes to Respite Care five days a week and also attends Brook Valley, a school for special needs children.

About Ms. Kennedy:   I am enjoying my first year at Field Club after twelve years in Special Education at Dundee Elementary.   I had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Wild at Dundee and I'm excited to be here at Field Club with her and the rest of the wonderful staff.    Kindergarten is a new and fun challenge for me and I'm very much enjoying working with Ms. Wassom and your wonderful children.

I have three grown children.    Brett is working on his PhD in Anthropology at the University of Utah, Rachel graduated from a college in Minnesota and works with various grassroots organizations in her quest for global social justice, and Kevin is studying Computer Science and Math at the University of Nebraska.

I love reading, gardening, music and  crafting.  I participate in craft fairs when I can.
