Welcome to Fifth Grade Room 9

Welcome to Mrs. Wynne's Fifth Grade
Parents should be receiving weekly communication in their student planners.  Please help your child remember to check their planners and complete assignments on time by signing it each night. Look for graded papers in Thursday take home envelopes. My email address is monica.white-wynne@ops.org

    Here are things that you can do so you are successful for this year. 

      Mrs. Wynne's helpful expectations:

  • Practice all flashcard  5 to 10 minutes daily. Students have mastered the times facts when they can say them to you within 1-2 seconds.
  • Read 30 minutes or more EVERYDAY and discuss what you read with someone or write out connections to ones own life, other books, or the real world. Ask questions, and  make predictions berore, during, and after reading a selection.
  • Write in a journal for fun.  Write how you are feeling, describe with details showing what it looks, taste, feels, smells or sounds like.
  • MAKE SURE YOU GET AT LEAST 8-10 HOURS OF SLEEP EACH NIGHT!!!

EVERY DAY:  READ TO YOUR KIDS AND LET THEM READ TO YOU TOO!

Genre Projects in Reading are due October 15, 2008.
Students chose a historical fiction  book by September 24, 2008 concerning American History topics.They signed a contract to be signed by parents by October 1, 2008 showing their book selection and project choice.  The choices include a Presidential Poster, Create a New Cereal, Photo Albums paper or electronic, Story Quilt, Comic Strip, Timeline, Time Capsule, or Post Cards format to present the book they read in addition to an oral presentation to peers. Please choose a different project than ones previously selected.

Science
We are studying the Water Cycle. We are learning the parts of an eye and ear. We are discovering how weather affects human decisions and pollution. Testing over Water Cycle will occur in October and all students have a goal to score proficient or Advanced in the study of Weather.

American History and Writing
Students are excited about discovering American History and our first explorers.  We  will soon study the American Revolution.  Now students are learning about how our government was set up by practicing the democratic process in a class meeting. Reading American History every night for 30 minutes and using the studyguide worksheets has really helped students understand our nation history and government structure.
