The new OPS grading system for grades 5 and 6:

|
The student consistently demonstrates a level of knowledge and application clearly above that required to be successful in the grade level content area.
These students are able to perform at a high level of difficulty, complexity, or fluency.
- Exceed expected standards
- Shows ability to retain and apply skills and strategies in new and unfamiliar situations
- Demonstrates full mastery of content standards

Proficient
85-92%
|
The student consistently demonstrates knowledge and application of grade level content. The student is able to perform at the level of difficulty, complexity, or fluency, as required by the standards.
- Meets expected standards and demonstrates strong understanding of skills introduced
- Shows ability to retain and apply skills and strategies in most situations
- Needs little teacher assistance
- Demonstrates mastery of most content standards

Progressing
77-84%
|
The student demonstrates limited knowledge of application of grade level content. The student is able to perform some of the content standards at a low level of difficulty, complexity, or fluency.
- Performs below expected standards
- Retains and applies skills and strategies in some situations
- Needs some guidance/relies on teacher assistance
- Demonstrates limited mastery of content standards
- Additional support from the teacher and parent is necessary

The student inconsistently demonstrates knowledge and application of grade level content.
- Performs far below expected grade level standards
- Demonstrates difficulty in retaining and applying skills and strategies
- Needs repeated instructions and guidance/relies on teacher assistance
- Non-mastery of most expected content standards
- Additional support from the teacher and parent is necessary

The student consistently struggles with the grade level content. A plan for success, such as after school help and/or continuous parent support is necessary. The goal is to help the child learn and succeed in the classroom. |
