The following are our fifth grade science standards:
5-01 Examine problems using scientific inquiry. (All year!)
* Describe how the study of light and sound is reciprocal to technology.
* Communicate scientific procedures and explanations.
* Use appropriate tools and techniques to gather, analyze, and interpret data.
5-02 Integrate unifying concepts and processes in science experiences. (Process skills labs from August through mid-October)
* Develop an understanding of form and function.
* Develop an understanding of systems, order, and organization.
* Develop an understanding of change, constancy, and measurement.
5-03 Investigate and describe the properties of light & sound. (November through December)
* Compare and contrast the motions of light and sound.
* Infer how light and sound impact humans and other organisms.
5-04 Investigate relationships among populations, resources, and hazards (both human and natural) within ecosystems. (January through April)
* Explain how the flow of energy and matter affect populations.
* Predict how ecosystems are changed by natural and human-made factors.
5-05 Explore the processes and effects of weather and the water cycle on the earth. (August through October)
* Examine how energy from the sun is the driving force of all weather and the water cycle.
* Examine how water and weather are affected by human interaction.
* Imagine how properties of weather affect humans.
