As a magnet school, Catlin has been very successful in recruiting a diverse student population. Residencies are planned to explore and build appreciation for the arts of different cultures.

September:  Michael Fitzsimmons Residency

This residency is made possible by an Artist-in-Schools Residency Grant from the Nebraska Arts Council

Drawing on more than 30 years experience as a professional musician, Michael Fitzsimmons has developed a multi-cultural residency program closely related to his Drums of the World concerts. Dynamic and powerful rhythms are explored with hand constructed frame drums. These drums can be complemented with 'found sound' instruments. During this residency participants explore beyond conventional boundaries, discovering sounds and rhythms.

5th grade was selected as the focus group to help strengthen their understandings of rhythm (as they begin band instruction and/or continue with orchestral studies), and their ability to play in an ensemble.
