Welcome to The ESL Webpage!!

I am elated to be part of Catlin Arts Magnet School to support our English Language Learners. We are very fortunate to have two paraprofessionals, Mrs. Cerevany and Mrs. Nigro, in addition to myself, who will be assisting your students to achieve to their highest potential, not only in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking but in all areas of academics. The teachers in the ESL office will be working closely with your student's classroom teacher to create the best plan and learning environment for your student to achieve academic goals set by the ESL office, classrooms teachers, and the students themselves.

I believe students learn best when they are given a model, are guided through, and practice until they reach independence. In order to speed along their success, students need to practice at home as well. Each night your student will be given the opportunity to take part in the take home book program. Please encourage your child to read these books each night, independently, out loud, to brothers and sisters, with you and to you and return them to school, so others may enjoy the literature. Reading is the most important activity your child can do to become successful in life.

My goal for each of my students is that s/he makes outstanding academic gains in the following four areas of the English language- Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.  However, I recognize that for this goal to be achieved, I need to have a strong relationship with all of our students’ parents/ guardians so that we can work together as a team.  I encourage each of you to contact me if you have any ideas, questions, or concerns regarding your child’s education. 
    Mi meta para cada uno de mis alumnos es que hagan avances académicos sobresalientes en cada uno de las siguientes cuatro áreas del idioma Ingles – Lectura, Escritura, Comprensión, y Conversación.  Sin embargo, reconozco que para que esta meta sea realidad, necesito tener una estrecha relación con todos los padres/tutores de mis alumnos para poder trabajar en equipo.  Le pido a cada uno de ustedes que me contacte con ideas, preguntas o preocupaciones en relación a la educación de su hijo.
