The 2009-10 school year will be the fifth year that Catlin 4th grade students have been invited to participate in the Omaha Symphony program entitled Communities LinkUP! This program includes classroom instruction, school visits by professional musicians, and an interactive orchestra concert. LinkUp! is a standards-based music education program modeled on a successful initiative used in the New York City public schools for over twenty years, facilitated by Carnegie Hall. The program culminates in an interactive symphony concert at the Holland Performing Arts Center (March 17, 2010) in which students participate by answering questions, singing, and playing recorders to demonstrate the concepts they have learned. I serve as the project's lead teacher which has provided many opportunities to collaborate with music teachers throughout the metro-area.
