Our students have been learning about time, money, and properties of shapes in Math.  We also have several students that have passed timed addition and subtraction facts (some that are even in multiplication!).  Students have their red bag book to read every night and a summarizing worksheet to complete over the weekend.  We are now also practicing the Daily 5 in our classroom (read to self, read to someone, listen to reading, writing, and word work).  The students really seem to enjoy it.  We recently went on a field trip sponsored by the National Arts Council where the students learned about the instrument families.  Students also went to see "The Headstrong Daughter" at the Rose.  Wows would be the progress I've seen in reading since the beginning of the year!

In Science, we are finishing up changes in matter.  The kids have made pumpkin pies to see how liquid can change to solid with heat.  We have also made jello and popsicles for liquid to solid with cold.

In Social Studies, we have studied about the Pilgrims and Mayflower and the first Thanksgiving, and we are now beginning to study about winter holidays celebrated around the world.

In Writing, my students are working on staying in a small moment and adding detail to make the moment more important.

In reading, we are practicing visualizing as we read.

Homework every night is their red bag books.  We began sending home a retell form for the weekends for fiction books, and they have to tell important facts and questions they have about the topic for non-fiction books.  Mrs. Hardin and I alternate sending content area homework every other day.

We have taken 2 field trips, one to the Children's Museum (we saw how machines work), and one to the Orpheum to see Flat Stanley.  We are looking forward to our field trip on the 19th to Joslyn!

Wows!- My classes are both very smart and get along well with each other!
