Dear Castelar Community,
The Mission Statement of the Omaha Public Schools is to provide educational opportunities, which enable all students to achieve their highest potential.
     We have completed the first quarter of school and I am proud to report that our Parent-Teacher Conference participation was 98%.  Thank you for taking the time
to discuss your child's progress with their teacher. You are a part of their success.   This is an excellent time to reflect with your child on the progress he/she is making toward the AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) goals that have been  set by the district at his/her grade level for this school year.
     At Castelar AYP has a different meaning.  AYP at Castelar means "About Your Progress."  A student suggested that we add a "T," then it would be "TAYP."  "Talk About Your Progress!"  I think that's a great idea!  It is important that we work together to ensure that your child is making progress.  In order to meet their needs, we must "talk" beyond Parent-Teacher Conference times.  We want to connect with you in order to help your child reach their full potential.

Castelar Elementary

Castelar Elementary is located in the enclave of South Omaha. Its neighborhood and community are rich in cultural diversity. Students are served in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Class size averages from fifteen to twenty students in the primary rooms and twenty to twenty-five in the intermediate classrooms. Besides offering the regular elementary curriculum, Castelar Elementary is an English as a Second Language Comprehensive Center and Dual Language School.

Castelar not only serves the academic needs of children, but it also reaches out to its community. The school offers a community outreach program and serves as a community liason by assisting families who are new to the city and who have need for information and material resources.

Staff and parents share the common vision that all students are eager and successful learners. This common mission helps to ensure that the highest quality educational opportunities are offered and that all children are able to reach their highest potential.
