Dear Parents,
From The Principal
Welcome to Beals Elementary School! It is indeed a privilege and a pleasure to serve as principal of Beals Elementary School. We hope that you and your family had a safe and enjoyable summer. I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children. My office is always open to every member of our school community, and I invite your comments. One of Beals’ E.X.C.E.L.S. (school improvement) goals is to increase parent involvement! And, we are so excited to welcome our new families and returning families as we live out our Mission:
“We will provide a quality education for all students where every person will be valued and respected.”
We will do this by providing an inclusive learning environment where differences are respected, valued and celebrated. The quality of learning at Beals will be enhanced for every student this year in a climate of inclusion, where all students will remain in their classroom and participate in their grade level instruction with the support of two certified teachers and a paraprofessional. The goal is to work closely with each student to identify their strengths and needs, while providing daily instruction to meet their needs in the classroom environment.
Family Leadership Institute
The school-wide Title I Grant that is provided to Beals assist in providing monthly Saturday Family Leadership Meetings for our families that chose to participate. We are headed in the right direction with such a great increase in our Criterion Referenced Test Scores! However, we can’t continue to grow like this without you. Therefore, please sign up to participate in the Family Leadership Institute and be involved with our Parent Teacher Association. Please attend the first PTA meeting to hear more-September 3, 2009 at 5:00 PM. If at any time you have questions, please call or stop by. Remember, Beals is not only your child’s school, it is your family’s school-“Parents are always welcome at Beals!”
Important Papers
Your student is bringing home a HOME TO SCHOOL Envelope; which contains the following:
Student Information Packet, Insurance information, Title I Parent Compact and Student Code of Conduct Card. You are asked to correct or verify the preprinted information and complete all of the pages for each child in the family. Parents or guardians are requested to complete and return this information to Beals Elementary tomorrow with your student.
Health Office
Your student will only be able to attend school if they have their immunizations completed and a record of this filed at school. Please contact the school nurse with any information regarding this. If this is not done the first week of school, your student will be excluded from school. Students are not allowed to bring in prescription medication or over the counter medications (including cough drops) without a doctors order. Also, parents need to sign a parent permission form. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact our Nurse, Mrs. Heck, 554-8570 x1007.
Arrival and Dismissal
There is no playtime before or after school. If you are needing to bring your student any earlier than 8:25 AM, they must be registered for Kid’s Club. There is NO outside supervision in the mornings until 8:30 AM. PLEASE DO NOT SEND CHILDREN UNTIL IT IS TIME TO REPORT TO SCHOOL. This is clearly for the safety of our students and this will be adhered to by all students. It is the parent's responsibility to see that the day care provider also adheres to dropping off or picking up your child on time daily. Dismissal is at 3:45. Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten students will be dismissed in the circle parking lot. All other students will be dismissed in the lower parking lot unless they have a pre-kdg or kdg sibling. Pre-kindergarten classes will begin on Thursday.
Non-Essentials
We are also asking for your assistance by making sure that your student does not bring any non-essentials to school. Non-essentials includes those items that can be distracting to learning. For example, Heely’s, toys, hand held pencil sharpeners, and other items that are not needed for school.
Visitations
We’d like to get to know you! Please come and visit us. For the protection of your child, any parent, guest or any other person coming into the building must report to the school office before going anywhere in the building. After signing in at the office, you will be issued a yellow visitor’s badge to be displayed as long as you are in the building. If you plan to visit your child’s classroom you must obtain a visitor’s pass from the office.
Educational research indicates that the student whose parent(s) take an active part in their child’s education do a better job in school. Again, “Parents Are Welcome At Beals Elementary School!” In the event you feel a conference is necessary, please request an appointment before or after class time with your child’s teacher.
Breakfast/Lunch
Breakfast is served daily beginning promptly at 8:30 a.m. and ending promptly at 8:50. The school cafeteria serves a variety of lunches each day. Salads, cold sandwiches and hot lunches are served daily. The full cost for lunch is $1.35 daily and the reduced lunch is $.40. Milk is now priced at $.25. The prices for all adult lunches are $2.65. Please return the meal application form that you received over the summer. If you are in need of another form, please contact the front office. Please complete all areas that apply to your household and return to school as soon as possible. All children attending Beals Elementary will be provided a complementary breakfast each day.
Together, we will strive for what’s in the best interest of our children! I understand that it takes a village to educate a child. The 2009-10 school year promises to be another exciting and rewarding school year for the entire Beals Elementary family! Thank you for sharing your precious loved one with us here at Beals.
Sincerely,
Dr. LeDonna York
